Welcome to a new series of posts where I let you in on my top five favourite products in a certain category. These are my ride or die products, some of which I’ve repurchased numerous times and will continue to do so, unless (God forbid) they get discontinued. I was inspired to do this series by Jamie Page on YouTube and loved the idea of sharing my top products because they’re some of my favourite posts to read/videos to watch. I hope you guys enjoy this and if you do, please leave me a comment and share this with your friends.
I’ve decided to start this series off with lip products as I have a slight obsession with them and always have at least 5 different ones on me at all times. From lip liners, to glosses and everything in between; I feel like a look just isn’t complete without something on your lips!
This is one of those products that I purchased long ago and loved for a while but then forgot about. It wasn’t until recently when I was looking back at old selfies that I couldn’t get over how much I liked this lip colour. I think it’s just one of those really flattering shades of pink on my skin tone (which is a warmer neutral). These liquid lipsticks are one of the more drying formulas out of the ones that I’ve tried, but I find that if you prep your lips prior to application with a little bit of balm and then pat some over top after, the colour tends to apply a little more sheer and not feel as dry.
I use to swear by the Makeup Forever Aqua lip liners, and although I still love them, I found a GREAT dupe for them and they’re much more affordable which to me is, of course, always a plus. When I was on the hunt for a new nude lip liner to replace my MUFE one, I stumbled across these ones from NYX. The nude shade is almost identical to my natural lip colour and I often just wear this with a little lip balm over top and it’s a super easy and quick, natural lip. An added bonus is that these lip liners are marketed as being waterproof and from my experience they do last a pretty damn long time. The only downside to this liner is that it is a super creamy formula so it can crumble when applying if you roll it up too much. As long as you’re mindful of that, then that’s really the only thing that I would consider a con. I wear this almost every day and I’ve repurchased it 3 times.
This is a product that is a little pricey but will last you forever. It’s my go-to mask during the winter months when my lips are super dry and flaky. Because it’s a mask, the product is a little thicker and goopy. For this reason, I apply it at night before I go to bed. I leave it on my bedside table so that I don’t forget to apply it and in the morning I wake up with the softest lips!
MAC lipsticks will always have a special place in my heart as MAC was the first makeup brand that I started using when I got into makeup. Because I live in Canada, we didn’t have a Sephora (nor was it really a big thing) until I was out of high school. So, growing up, I would spend most of my money at MAC and for Christmas and my birthday I would always ask for MAC gift cards. MAC has a variety of different lip colour formulas but for me, the creme sheens are my absolute favourite. They’re super creamy and comfortable on the lips, and although they aren’t super pigmented, they have just enough colour payoff be visible without being too over the top. I haven’t tried all of MAC’s creme sheen formulas, so I’m sure there are other shades out there that I would love, but these two are the shades that stand out the most to me in my mind. Cream Cup is a perfect cool-toned light pink, while Samantha Ravndahl, created the social media influencer herself, is a lighter more neutral nude the actually looks stunning over top of the KVD colour previously mentioned. Unfortunately the Samantha lipstick was a limited edition and I am running out of it quickly, so I’m always on the hunt for a good dupe for it. If you know of one, let me know!
The last lip product is another lipstick from MAC (surprise, surprise) and it’s Velvet Teddy which is in their matte formula. While writing this post, I’m actually surprised by how many matte lip products I included, but I think the reason being is because I like to overdraw my lips. I haven’t hopped on the lip filler bandwagon, and I may one day, but for now I find the best option is just overdrawing my top lip slightly. I find this works best with matte products because it’s less evident where your real lip line is versus the extended line. Velvet Teddy is one of my most used lipsticks when it comes to wearing an overdrawn lip. I bought this back in the day when Kylie Jenner first started getting hype for her lips and the artists at MAC told me that this was one of the lipsticks she wore most (the other was Pink Plaid, also another matte).
